A father and daughter have been threatened at knifepoint by a robber wearing a green and white mask at their own front door. John Redmile, 67, and his daughter Mandy, 41, of Bracknell Crescent, Whitemoor, were at home at around 9pm on Friday when they heard a knock at the door.
Mandy, who has Spina Bifida and uses a wheelchair, answered the door and was confronted by a black man with a knife. The man, who was in his early 30s, wore a mask covering his mouth and demanded money.
He barged into the house and Mr Redmile gave him some cash, but the robber proceeded to search the house for more. He found further money within the house, as well as Mandy’s iPhone, and fled with the items. Neither victims were injured during the incident, but both were left extremely shaken by the ordeal.
The man is black, of slim build and around 6ft tall. He wore dark clothing and a green and white covering over his face. Mr Redmile said: “Mandy used to enjoy going out but is very wary now following what happened - she’s scared something is going to happen to her. “Money and phones can be replaced; I would like him to be caught to make sure this doesn’t happen to anyone else.”
Detective Constable Ian Holmes added: “This was a terrifying intrusion into the home of a father and his daughter who were enjoying an evening at home. “I appeal to anyone who saw the man we have described in the moments before or after the robbery, and to anyone who knows his identity.
“He carried out a despicable offence and we will do all we can to find him and ensure he doesn’t do this to anyone else.” Anyone with information should contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 .
Residents are being urged to always lock their doors, even when at home, and keep windows closed especially at night.
