A man who sexually assaulted a woman after viciously attacking her with a brick has been jailed for 13 years.
Jermaine
Robinson, 27, of Basford Road, Whitemoor, was found guilty of grievous
bodily harm (GBH) and sexual assault following a trial at Nottingham
Crown Court.
He
was handed a 13 year sentence for the GBH to serve a minimum of nine
years. He was given an eight year sentence for the sexual assault. The
terms will run concurrently.
The court heard how Robinson befriended his 18-year-old victim as she walked through Radford in the early hours of 26 June.
Robinson
became angry when she rejected his sexual advances and hit her over the
head with a brick and punched her repeatedly to the head and face,
causing her to fall down unconscious.
She
awoke to find Robinson sexually assaulting her. He told his victim, who
was bleeding heavily from her head, that they had been attacked by
another person.
Despite
the woman’s pleas, Robinson made no attempt to help her and she managed
to flee to a nearby street and call an ambulance.
Robinson
had left the scene when police and ambulance arrived but was arrested
three days later after a police officer recognised him from CCTV
footage recorded on the night of the attack.
Robinson
continued to deny that he assaulted the woman and insisted that he had
left her alone to get drugs and found her unconscious when he returned.
He pleaded not guilty to both charges but was convicted by a jury. He was sentenced today (Thursday 14 February).
Detective
Constable Kayne Rukas, who led the investigation, said: “Robinson is a
dangerous predator who has shown no remorse for the violent and cruel
attack.
“He put
his victim through further trauma but making her endure a public trial,
where she had to relive the horrifying events of that night.
“He
launched a vicious attack on her and did nothing to help her. Even
passers-by who were clearly concerned for the woman were warned off by
him.
