The attack happened on Radford Road A 43-year-old man has appeared in front of magistrates in Nottingham charged with attempted murder.
Whitcliffe Lambert, of Bunton Street, is also charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place - namely a samurai sword.
No bail application was made and he was remanded to appear in crown court by video link on October 19.
He was charged in connection with an incident on Radford Road in Hyson Green on October 1.
