Sudanese 'refugee' appears in Nottingham court accused of raping woman

A Sudanese refugee has appeared in court charged with the rape of a woman last weekend.

Osman Suliman, 20, of Gregory Boulevard, appeared before Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Saturday. He is alleged to have raped the woman on September 26.

Prosecutor Sanjay Jerath told magistrates Suliman has been in the country for five months after seeking asylum from Sudan.

Suliman spoke through an Arabic translator to confirm his name, age and address.

 He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on October 19.
