Long Eaton BMW drink-driver Kamalesh Kumar handed a 20-month ban

A BMW driver has been banned from the roads for 20 months after he was caught over the drink-drive limit.

Kamalesh Kumar was disqualified at Nottingham Magistrates' Court after he admitted drink-driving.

Justices also fined him £80, ordered him to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and court costs of £85.

Kumar, 57, of Mendip Close, Long Eaton, was caught in Canal Street, Nottingham city centre, on February 24 this year.

He had 85 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, when the legal limit is 35, the court heard.

Magistrates took into account his plea of guilty when he appeared in court on March 7.

They said that his driving disqualification will be reduced by 22 weeks – if he agrees to go on a Government-approved course for those convicted of drink-driving. He has to have attended the course by April 8.

The court also ordered that his driving licence is sent to the DVLA .
