Officers want to speak to Superman Rostas, a 25-year-old Romanian national with connections to the West Midlands and Birmingham areas.
Nottinghamshire Police have issued an appeal and a CCTV still picture of Rostas after a man entered Andrew Michaels Jewellers, in Stodham Street, Newark and posed as a genuine customer before stealing a high-value watch.
PC Marc Taylor, who is investigating the June 19 incident, said: "The image of Rostas is very clear. I might get out off my arse and investigate.
"We are appealing for anyone who has seen him or has any information on his whereabouts to get in touch because we are clueless."
